Kitchen Trends 2022: Melbourne’s favourite kitchen designs

New Melbourne Interior Design looks into what kitchen designs Melbournians prefer and why…

Having designed many kitchens in my career, I found that where people struggle the most is in finding their design style, and finding an expert who will help they achieve their kitchen goals.

Needless to say, a new kitchen is the biggest investment we make inside our homes, so it has to be right the first time ‘round.

Below you will find some ideas that will help you decide which design styles resonate with you, what colours you are leaning towards and what some of the ‘nice to haves’ would be in your new kitchen.

1. Sleek, modern and curvy

Why Melbournians love this type of kitchen design? The handleless cabinetry design, integrated fridge, beautiful veined stone benchtops and splashback, it is modern and sophisticated. The curved timber panels add a softness, creating a well designed modern space.

2. Modern Country

There is just something beautiful and charming about this kitchen. The freestanding range in a beautiful baby blue colour, the cabinets in Benjamin Mooore Swiss Coffee - I believe that is Shea McGee’s favourite colour, and the gold cabinetry handles make this kitchen truly beautiful. And if you cook a lot of pasta, consider getting yourself a pot filler - they will save you time and they look amazing.

3. Hidden breakfast bar

We all know Melbourne is the coffee capital of the world, and yes, we like our coffee and our breakfast. But we are also in a hurry, so pocket doors to the rescue. Unless we have the space for a butler’s pantry…

4. Butler’s pantry

We are seeing these more and more in Melbourne homes, especially in new developments. It is a space we can keep our pantry items neatly organised, and our coffee machine, rice cooker and air fryer at the ready.

5. High contrast

Timeless elegance is something that can be incorporated into homes, and works very well with home renovations. Here we can see a mix of white, black and wood tones, brick veneer and a statement island benchtop. Well lit glass door cabinetry takes this kitchen to the next level.

6. It’s all about the stone

We often see and hear how wonderful and luxurious marble is, but we tend to lean towards quartz. It is just more practical and hardwearing, and the choices are endless. Whichever way you choose to go, make sure you do your research for what suites you best.

7. Introduce colour

Make a statement, let your home be a representation of you, and if there is something you like, go for it. Don’t get me wrong, I like bright and white kitchens, but this is just one sexy kitchen.
